It could be due to fear, greed, ignorance or to overcome difficulties in facing challenges in life. She further explained that by ‘taking refuge’ in the ‘Three Jewels’ – the Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha – we are actually resolving to uphold the Buddha’s teaching as the guiding principle in our lives, and gradually work towards liberation from suffering.

The fruitful workshop was designed to train in-house emcees to host various Nalanda programmes and activities with poise, confidence and effectiveness. The facilitators, Sis. Sadhika Tan and Bro. Tong, shared many useful techniques including ways to overcome stage fright, effective delivery, as well as organising and preparing the presentation.

Read moreOn Sunday 23 August, Head of Department for Buddhist and Pāli Studies Sis. Sandy Lim gave a briefing to participants who have registered, and those keen to understand more about the course. She explained on the course structure, and the modules (‘Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha’; the ‘Four Noble Truths’; ‘Kamma’; and ‘Wholesome Deeds’) which will be covered within the course duration. The briefing session was well attended by more than 30 participants and many took the opportunity to clear their enquiries on the course.

Read moreOn Saturday 8 August, Achariya Tan Siang Chye began the lecture by explaining the meaning of “Kusala Kamma”, (wholesome deeds). The results of the deeds are determined by the intention which is shown through our action, speech and thought. Hence one’s progress or digress is dependent on one’s understanding and cultivation, and not from external sources.
