2004 Tsunami Remembrance Day

Nine years ago today, on 26 December 2004, a massive earthquake off Sumatra triggered a Tsunami that swept across 14 countries and killed a quarter million people.  It was among the worst natural disasters in human history.  But the aftermath of the tragedy saw an outpouring of compassion and donation, which brought out the best aspects of humanity.

A Tribute to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar (1891 – 1956)

Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was born in 1891 into the ‘untouchables’, a segment of India’s population that was hitherto deprived, degraded, and often mistreated by the other castes.  Yet despite his early deprivation, Dr. Ambedkar later rose in stature and prominence through hard work and fortitude to become the first Law Minister of independent India.  He is also popularly regarded as the ‘principal architect of the Indian Constitution’ – a social contract that granted liberties, justice, and respectability to India’s dejected millions.

Earnest and Heartfelt Memorial Day

31 August 2013 marked the 7th Anniversary of the late Ven. Dr. Kirinde Sri Dhammananda's passing.  Nalanda honoured our late Spiritual Advisor with a commemoration ceremony on that day.  After the meditation, puja and chanting, Bro. Tan gave a moving and poignant Dhamma talk, with fond recollections of the late venerable’s humour, kindness, wit and wisdom.  Bro. Tan also reminded us to “admire the Dhamma from near”, and live closely in accordance with the Dhamma.

Nalanda commemorates Ajahn Buddhadasa

Nalanda Buddhist Society’s Ajahn Buddhadasa Commemoration Programme began at 9.00am today with meditation, pūja and chanting at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.  Director of Nalanda Library Bro. Ananda Fong introduced the programme to the congregation in his opening remarks.  Nalanda Founder Bro. Tan then stated the purpose of this event, which is to introduce more inspiring Buddhist teachers to the Malaysian Buddhist community.
