Today is the new-moon Uposatha Day of the month of Māgasira. This day marks the passing of Venerable Moggallāna, one of the two chief disciples of the Buddha. Venerable Moggallāna, renowned for his deep compassion, wisdom and extraordinary meditative abilities, has unique abilities to teach the Dhamma effectively to monks and lay people.

Last Pindacāra of 2025

Last Saturday 15 November, the community at Seri Kembangan markets gladly offered requisites to venerable Sangha members for the last Pindacāra of the year. Volunteers took time to inform curious onlookers about the purpose of Pindacāra and encouraged them to participate. Some who have been observing this activity for months now joined in with deeper understanding and faith.

Ven. Dipako talks about looking inward

Last Wednesday 12 November, devotees gathered at Nalanda Centre to learn from Ven. Dipako, who first shared his personal story and challenges in becoming a monk.  He remarked that we all have the opportunities to deepen our practice as we are in a safe environment and can fulfill our basic needs. But at the same time, there are many distractions in our lives which can derail our spiritual aspirations.

On Tuesday 11 November, the Young Working Adults group held their monthly gathering at the Nalanda Education Outreach Centre in Happy Garden to explore the theme of “Finding Meaning and Purpose at Work”. The session began with a self-reflection exercise where participants examined their state of mind when thinking about their careers.

The wisdom of seeing things as they truly are

On 7 and 8 November, Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch was honoured to host a two-day Dhamma Retreat led by Venerable Kittisobhano (Bhante Huat Poh).  Through relatable examples, Venerable guided participants to understand the Wisdom of “seeing things as they truly are”. Venerable explained that while generosity, morality, and meditation exist in many traditions, the distinctive strength of the Buddha-Dhamma lies in its wisdom that leads one beyond suffering.  He highlighted that suffering arises when we mistakenly take the temporary aggregation of the five aggregates as a permanent “self”.

Ven. Dīpako arrives at Nalanda Centre

We have received the arrival of Ven. Dīpako at 7pm today at Nalanda Centre. It is Ven. Dīpako's maiden visit to Nalanda Centre and he will be delivering a Dhamma talk and guided meditation from 8.30pm to 10.00pm. All are welcome! Ven. Dīpako was born in the city of Rennes, France to parents of Sino-Khmer heritage.  During a visit to Southeast Asia, he discovered Wat Pah Nanachat, the International Forest Monastery in Thailand.
