Training for Buddhist Māhavihāra librarians

On Saturday 18 June, six volunteer librarians from the Buddhist Māhavihāra (BMV) received training at Nalanda on how to use the OPAC library cataloging system.  A special session to understand the functions and capabilities of the OPAC system was conducted by Pustaka Nalanda (Library) Director Bro. Ananda Fong, IT Manager Bro. Lam, and Operations Manager Sis. Chin.

The ‘water simile’ on worldliness

On Wednesday 15 June, at the weekly group practice, Sis. Buddhinī shared with new participants the basics of meditation.  She explained the purpose of meditation, important factors to consider, the different meditation postures, and led participants through a sitting session.

Dhamma School study tour to Kedah

During the recent school holidays in June, Nalanda Dhamma School organized a special 4-day study tour to Bujang Valley in Kedah for 75 teachers and students. We were privileged to be led by Bro. Tan, who is an acknowledged expert on Buddhist history in Southeast Asia. With his informative and lively narration, every turn along our journey seemed to hold surprises for us to discover!

Peaceful expansion of Buddhism in Southeast Asia

On Sunday 8 May, the Buddhist Missionary Society of Malaysia (BMSM) organized a seminar on the ‘Historical Development of Buddhism’ as part of its Wesak ‘Buddha Day’ celebrations.  Nalanda founder Bro. Tan joined renowned Nepali archaeologist Dr. Basanta Bidari and Australian venerable Bhikkhu Jaganatho on the panel of speakers to discuss the subject, with Prof. Ong Puay Liu as the moderator.

Nalandians attend Theravada Council meeting

On 28 May, Nalanda President Sis. Evelyn Chow led the Nalandian delegation to attend the Annual General Meeting of Theravada Council of Malaysia (TBCM), held at Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Kuala Lumpur.  Bro. Ananda Fong, Bro. Pee Che Yong, and Sis. Joanne Tan were the Society’s other representatives at the AGM.

Family Fun Fair is back!

Sunday, 31 July | 9 am – 4 pm | Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang

The much-anticipated ‘NALANDA FAMILY FUN FAIR’ is back this year on 31 July!  This year’s ‘Family Fun Fair’ will feature over 160 stalls offering a wide range of food, beverages, household items, handicrafts, and merchandise.  There will also be cultural shows and performances by youths and students.  In short, it is going to be a wonderful outing for families and friends while supporting a noble cause!

Scholar monks at Nalanda Centre

On Thursday 26 May, a group of 13 young monks from Sri Lanka visited Nalanda Centre to learn about Buddhist educational work in Malaysia.  These monks were among the best scholars in Pāli, Sanskrit and Sinhalese languages, having excelled in Sri Lankan national ‘Pirivena’ examinations and obtained the first places in those subjects.  They were accorded a special visit to Malaysia courtesy of Venerable Sri Saranankara Nayaka Thero of Sentul Temple.

Another dark day for humanity

Yesterday was another dark episode for humanity.  Suicide bombers opened fire and detonated themselves at the crowded Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey, killing at least 41 people and injuring more than 230.
