Vesakha Month starts today

Today is the New-moon day of the holy Vesakhā Month. On these Uposatha (observance) days, the laity devote themselves to a day of restraint, meditation and cultivation of mindfulness. Some may observe the Eight Precepts and listen to or read Dhamma teachings attentively.

Happy Young Adults learn effective communication and listening skills

On Tuesday 22 April, the young working adults group continued their learning about ‘Building Effective Communication and Active Listening’ with Sis. Paruadi Ramasamy at Nalanda Education & Outreach Centre in Happy Garden.  They explored three important skills, being 1) reading the room and paying attention to non-verbal cues to better understand the context 2) logical and analytical reasoning to draw valid conclusions and digest information logically, and 3) asking questions in the right way and in carefully thought-out words.

Mass Food Offering on ‘Buddha Day’

In conjunction with Wesak celebrations, a Mass Food Offering will be held on ‘Buddha Day’ Monday 12 May, at 5.30pm. This meaningful tradition brings together devotees and the community to cultivate generosity and share blessings.  We rejoice in the kind-hearted support of devotees, who make their offerings with joy and sincerity.

Serene pindacāra led by Ven. Bhikkhuni Anupama

On Saturday 19 April, stall vendors and market-goers at the Seri Kembangan market had the opportunity to offer alms at the pindacāra led by Ven. Bhikkhuni Anupama. Her presence lent a sense of serenity, invoking faith amongst those who witness this tradition which traces back over 2,600 years to the time of the Buddha.  Not leaving empty-handed, supporters were invited to join ‘Buddha Day’ Observance at Nalanda from 10 to 18 May.

Together as a community in Selangor State Wesak Launching Ceremony

On Sunday 20 April, Nalanda leaders led by President Sis. Buddhinī Tan joined the community at the Selangor State Wesak Launching Ceremony at Maha Karuna Vihara in Shah Alam.  The event which marked the beginning of Wesak celebrations in the state, was attended by over 300 Buddhist leaders and devotees.

Tribute to Pope Francis (1936 – 2025)

Nalanda Buddhist Society Malaysia offers our deepest condolences to our Catholic brothers and sisters over the passing of Pope Francis earlier today on 21 April 2025. The world has lost another humanistic voice of compassion, and a little of its shine today with his passing.  Now, as they say, ‘he belongs to eternity’; but we can take solace in that the good a man does lives after him.  May the late Pope Francis rest in Peace.
