Teachers and students set off to Kelantan

Yesterday (7 December) morning, 3 facilitators and 13 students from Nalanda Dhamma School (NDS) set off to Kelantan to conduct another holiday camp for teenagers.  100 Kelantanese students have registered for the camp, which is jointly organized by NDS and local Buddhist societies there.  The 3-day camp will be held in Tumpat starting today, with the theme “Cermin Hati” (“Mirror of the Heart”).  NDS Director Sis. Sunanda is the camp leader.

Participants sit for Buddhist Examination

On Saturday, 21 November, BPS303 – Certificate in Buddhist Studies participants sat for the written examination which was held concurrently at Nalanda Centre and Kota Bharu Mettarama Centre in Kelantan. It was the last hurdle for the participants who had been diligently attending lectures and completing their personal and group assignments since the course started in early July.

Participants sit for examination in Kelantan

The 26 participants of BPS 303 – Certificate in Buddhist Studies from Kota Bharu, Kelantan, are certainly an inspiration to all students of Dhamma.  Even though theirs was a distant-learning course, it did not put a damper to their spirits.  This was especially evident on Saturday 21 November when many arrived for their examination one hour early despite the wet weather.  A participant said that she had to drive more than an hour just to get to Kota Bharu Mettarama Centre where the examination was held.

Course participants impress with presentations

Saturday 31 October was Group Assignment Presentation Day for participants of BPS 303 – Buddhist Studies course.  It was the ‘grand finale’ to a 10-session course which began on 4 July.  The participants were divided into 11 groups and they had two options to choose from.  The first option was to conduct a survey to find out how much Buddhists themselves understood Buddhism, and the second was to take part in an activity which reflected the ‘Ten Wholesome Deeds’.

‘Kalyana mittā’ at ‘Family Fun Fair’

During Nalanda ‘Family Fun Fair’, we were glad and motivated to receive various support from our friends who came from afar.  Our Kelantanese devotees comprising of 4 adults and 6 students arrived at Nalanda Centre on Friday, 7 August and helped earnestly with the preparations.

Kelantan Dhamma Teachers visit Nalanda

A group of 12 earnest Dhamma School teachers and Buddhist leaders from Kelantan came to Nalanda Centre Sri Serdang for a fruitful learning visit from 20 – 22 March.  They were warmly welcomed and hosted by Nalanda Dharma School (N.D.S.) Director Sis. Sunanda Ong and N.D.S. Facilitators.

Close friends from afar came to help

During last weekend’s Nalanda ‘Family Fun Fair’, we were touched by our Kelantanese friends who came from so far by train, bus and plane to support the event!  An advance party of 8 devotees came to camp at Nalanda Centre for 2 days to help with the preparations.  And they did not come empty handed – together they brought along 2,000 pieces of home-made ‘tao pao’ (a local Kelantanese delicacy), 50kg of various fruits, and 300 coconuts!

Dhammaduta & Study Tour to the East Coast

Special invitation to Nalanda members and volunteer-officers!  We are happy to offer the opportunity for Nalandians to join Bro. Tan on a 4-day Dhammaduta and Study Tour to Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang, from 17 to 20 July.  Travelling by tour bus, we shall be stopping en route at towns where Bro. Tan will be giving talks.

Another “Dhammaduta Mission” to Kelantan

At 7.30 pm this evening, Nalanda Dharma School (NDS) facilitators and students gathered at Nalanda Centre for Pūja before departing by bus to Kelantan.  They are on a “Dhammaduta Mission” there to help organize a Dhamma School Teachers’ Workshop, as well as a Teenagers’ Learning Camp.

Joyful Dhammaduta tour to Kelantan

A team of 13 Nalandians, led by Sis. Sunanda Ong the Director of Nalanda Dharma School (NDS), had a fruitful Dhammaduta tour to Kelantan over the Christmas holidays.  The tour programme included a “Teenagers’ Learning Camp” and a “Dhamma School Teachers’ Workshop”, both jointly organized by NDS and Persatuan Buddhis Wakaf Bharu.
