Reflective Memorial Service for MH17

On Wednesday 23 July, Nalanda Centre was filled with devotees who came to participate in a Memorial Service for the casualties of MH17.  Bro. Tan led devotees in pūja, chanting and Mettā meditation.  After which, a short but impactful video clip showing the last moments of MH17 and aftermaths of the tragedy was presented.  Following that was an inspiring Dhamma talk by Bro Tan.

An illuminating finale to Gimhāna Retreat

On Wednesday 16 July, Nalanda Centre was packed with devotees eager to listen to the last Gimhāna teachings for 2014.  It was indeed a worthwhile effort as Bro. Tan delivered an illuminating finale on the gradual development of a ‘good mind’.  Recalling his earlier talks about a ‘good heart’ versus a ‘good mind’, he asked rhetorically –‘What is this “mind”?’

Facing Disappointments with Resilience

On Wednesday 9 July, Nalanda Centre was again filled with devotees eager to learn and practice Dhamma.  In his Dhamma talk, Bro. Tan shared some practical and beneficial tips on how to deal with disappointments.  In our daily life, it is not uncommon to encounter disappointments of varying degrees, which constantly disturb our mental serenity.  To deal with it, Bro. Tan shared that we need to put ‘problems’ in the proper perspective, and thus gradually developing ‘Right View’.

Memorial Service for Casualties of MH17

Dear friends, a special evening Service in memory of the casualties of MH17 will be held at Nalanda Centre on Wednesday 23 July, from 8pm to 10pm.  We invite you to participate in this Service with meditation, chanting, and a Dhamma teaching by Bro. Tan, who will talk about the Buddhist response to the vicissitudes of life.  All are welcome.

Fitting finale to an inspiring Gimhāna Retreat

This year’s 7-week long Gimhāna Period Retreat, which began on 28 May, came to a wonderful and inspiring close last night.  Over the weeks, more than 200 devotees packed Nalanda Centre especially on Wednesdays and weekends for meditation, chanting, and community service.

Inspiring and Aspiring Dutiful Conduct

‘Samatha’ & ‘Vipassanā’ Sutta Workshop

The ‘grand finale’ of the Samatha & Vipassanā Sutta Workshop series was held recently at Subang Jaya Buddhist Association (SJBA) on 5 – 6 July 2014.  It was the ninth workshop conducted by Venerable Aggacitta Mahathero since Nalanda Institute organised the inaugural ‘Samatha & Vipassanā Sutta Study with Meditation Workshop’ back in March.

Every year between the Full-moon days of May and July, Nalandians observe 7 weeks of Dhamma immersion where we often gather for meditation, chanting, Dhamma discussions, and communal service. This 7-week programme is called the ‘Gimhana Period’ at Nalanda.

+Positive+ Gimhāna Meditation Session

On Wednesday 25 June, devotees thronged Nalanda Centre to participate in the fifth meditation session of the on-going ‘Gimhāna Retreat’.  Those who are new to meditation were guided by Bro. Tan in a separate class, while seasoned meditators sat in the Shrine Hall.  After the group sitting, Bro. Tan gave an uplifting Dhamma teaching on “Being Positive” – one of the factors for achieving mental well-being.
