Full-moon Uposatha of Assayuja month

Today is the full moon of the ‘Assayuja’ month, a significant Buddhist observance marking the conclusion of the three-month Rains Retreat (‘Vassana’) for Theravāda monks. On this sacred Uposatha day, let us come together in faith and devotion to engage in wholesome practices - observing the Eight Precepts, cultivating mindfulness through meditation, chanting, and offering alms to the monastic community. May this occasion inspire us to renew our commitment to the Dhamma, deepen our practice, and walk steadfastly on the noble path toward liberation.

Cultivating generosity through monthly Pindacāra

On Saturday 20 September, Nalanda members and volunteers conducted the monthly Pindacāra (monks on alms-round) at the morning markets in Seri Kembangan. Encouraged by the opportunity to do good, many from the local and market community are regularly participating, joyfully offering food and requisites with faith and gratitude.

Facilitators’ journey of reflection and growth in Thailand

From 12 to 16 September, 20 Nalanda Dhamma School facilitators travelled to Thailand for a meaningful study tour in conjunction with the school’s 20th anniversary. Led by Nalanda Buddhist Society President, Sis. Buddhinī Tan, and Director of Nalanda Dhamma School, Sis. See Hui Shien, the trip centred on learning from revered monastic teachers.

Paying tribute to Ven. K. Sri Dhammananda on Memorial Day

On Sunday 31 August, Nalanda members, devotees, and students gathered to commemorate the 19th anniversary of the passing of our late Spiritual Adviser, Ven. K. Sri Dhammananda.  With deep respect and gratitude, we recollected the teachings and exemplary life of the ‘Late Chief’, whose wisdom and compassion continue to inspire and guide us to this day.

Passing of Ven. A. Ratanasiri Nāyaka Mahāthero, 1955 – 2025

It is with deep respect and a heavy heart that we observe the passing away of Venerable Alubomulle Ratanasiri Nāyaka Mahāthero on 17 August 2025, aged 70.  Ven. Ratanasiri served as the previous abbot of Seck Kia Eenh Buddhist Temple in Malacca.  After stepping down from the role, Venerable spent his final days in Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Sentul.

Hosting Ven. Sajjana at Nalanda Centre

On Sunday 20 July, we joyfully hosted Ven. Sajjana, a Burmese monk who is currently pursuing his PhD in Delhi University, India.  Sis Nandinī Tan led Ven. Sajjana on a building tour where he expressed particular interest in Nalanda’s Tipitaka and book collection in the Library.

Observance of Dhammacakka Day in unity and joy

On Sunday 13 July, all learning divisions of Nalanda- including Dhamma School juniors, teenagers, youths, parents, and adults, gathered with joy and reverence to commemorate Dhammacakka Day, marking the occasion when the Buddha first expounded the Dhamma to His five disciples in Isipatana over 2,600 years ago.
