A warm send-off on 9 March marked the end of a 3-month-long Training Programme at Nalanda Centre for 56 National Service trainees from Semenyih Camp. In the eight sessions spent learning and growing together, the National Service trainees were exposed to basic understanding on Buddhism. It was another fruitful outing for 54 National Service (NS) trainees who attended Service Sunday at Nalanda Centre on 16 February. Their arrival was warmly greeted by Nalanda youths, who have for the past two months organised a series of interesting activities which aimed at sharing basic Dhamma knowledge with the trainees.Read more
On Sunday 9 February, Bro. Tan gave an uplifting Dhamma Talk on the Buddhist concept of filial-piety. In Chinese philosophy and culture, filial-piety (孝道) is greatly valued and highly esteemed. Ancient stories about filial children revering and caring for their parents are widely known and often repeated.Read more
National Service trainees who attended Service at Nalanda Centre yesterday (26 January) were feted to a pre-New Year joyful celebration with meaningful activities and sharings. After pūja and meditation, Sis. Qi Hua shared about “Right Action, Effort, and Speech”. That was followed by group discussions and refreshments.Read more
On 18 and 19 January, Bro. Tan visited NEO Centre Johor Bahru and gave 2 insightful Dhamma talks over the weekend. It was his first visit to Johor since September 2013, and devotees were eagerly awaiting the opportunity to meet him and discuss the Dhamma. On 12 January, Nalanda Youths hosted 60 National Service (NS) trainees from the Semenyih Camp for a Sunday Service from 2pm to 5pm. Nalanda Youths aim to share and inspire the young trainees with the beautiful Dhamma during their next three months of weekly visits to Nalanda Centre Sri Serdang.
16 Nalanda Youths attended the first Youth Service Sunday in 2014 at Nalanda Centre on 12 January. Weekly Service Sundays for youths begin at 9am with Pūja (offerings) and chanting, followed by Dhamma Sharing. Last Sunday, Sis. Sunanda Ong shared on the meaning of ‘Right Effort’. The youths in turn expressed their wholesome aspirations for 2014.Read more
On Sunday 22 December, Nalandians and devotees were privileged to attend a talk by Dr. Phang Cheng Kar, a practising psychiatrist and a popular Dharma speaker. The title of his talk was ‘Managing the 8 Winds of Change with Equanimity’. In his introduction, Dr. Phang mentioned that all men are subjected to 4 desirable conditions, Gain (labho), Fame (yaso), Praise (pasamsa), and Happiness (sukha), as well as 4 undesirable conditions namely, Loss (alabho), Defame (ayaso), Blame (ninda), and Unhappiness (dukkha).
