On Saturday 19 September, the monthly educational ‘Pindacāra’ programme (monks going on alms-round) was joyfully held at Seri Kembangan market. Our friendly “People Engagement” team was actively engaging with traders and devotees at the market. Leaflets explaining what ‘Pindacāra’ was about were also distributed to on-lookers.

Although a foremost and distinguished scholar in Pāli language and literature, and having been the first Vice-Chancellor of the Buddhist & Pāli University of Sri Lanka, the late Professor Anuruddha lived most of his life in seclusion. His funeral was a very simple affair in accordance to his last wish, much in character with this humble bhikkhu.

He related a few Buddhist accounts of rebirth, besides showing scientific research on the subject by Dr. Ian Stevenson and Dr. Brian Weiss. In ‘Majjhima Nikāya’ No. 41 the ‘Saleyyaka Sutta’, the Buddha elaborated on why some beings after death reappear in happy or unhappy destinations. It is through righteous conduct in accordance with the Dhamma that beings are born in fortunate realms.
