First Service Sunday at NEO Centre Johor Bahru

The NEO Centre Johor Bahru had a wonderful beginning last Sunday with its first ‘Service Sunday’ held on 12 May.  More than 50 Nalanda officers and devotees attended the Service which started with meditation at 9am, followed by Pūja, Chanting, and Dhamma teaching by Bro Tan.

Visit to Metta Lodge Johor Bahru

On Sunday, 12 May, a group of Nalandian officers led by our President Bro. Lee Kong Foo and Johor Bahru Branch Chairperson Bro. Yap Chong Huat visited the Metta Lodge Buddhist Centre in Taman Melodies.  The Nalandians were warmly received by leaders of Metta Lodge, led by its President Bro. Heng Chai Teet and his deputy, Bro. Patrick Tan.

Happy Teachers’ Day 2013

Today is Teachers’ Day.  The Principal of Nalanda Free School and Acting Director of Nalanda Dharma School, Bro. H S Tan, cordially invites Nalandians to come for a special Púja in honour of all our teachers.  May they be blessed with health, joy and wisdom.  May our teachers enjoy many more happy, fulfilling years of teaching!  After the Púja, there will be a Mandarin Dhamma Talk by Ven. Ajahn Cagino entitled “The Role of Teachers and Parents in Nurturing Children Holistically”.  All are welcome!

Installation of Buddharupam & inaugural Uposatha pūja

10 May was a pivotal milestone for NEO Centre Johor Bahru.  After 2 months of renovation, the Centre was finally ready to host its Buddharupam in the Shrine Hall.  Members and devotees of Nalanda JB respectfully welcomed the Buddharupam to the Centre in a simple yet meaningful ceremony led by Bro. Tan.  It was also the New-moon Uposatha Day marking the start of Vesakha (Wesak) month.  Hence, the installation of the Buddharupam on that day was most timely and appropriate.

Joy in ‘Completing’ a Wholesome Deed

4 May 2013 marked the first anniversary of Nalanda's Monthly Pindacāra (alms-round) Programme at the Taman O.U.G. morning market. Devotees and volunteers gathered for the morning chanting and invocation at NEO Centre Happy Garden to calm their minds and reaffirm their wholesome aspirations before embarking for the alms-round with the venerable bhikkhus.

Nalandians Celebrate Our 10th Anniversary!

1 May 2013 was a special day for all Nalandians as we celebrated the Society’s 10th Anniversary! This milestone was significant as we recognised the growth and success of Nalanda as a Buddhist education provider over the past decade. Nalandians also aptly reflected with immense gratitude and appreciation for all the support, contributions and voluntary services by many devotees near and far, who have helped to forge Nalanda, in order for it to become the excellent facility that it is today.
