Long Live Their Majesties

Nalanda Buddhist Society would like to thank His Majesty Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah of Kedah who is stepping down as the 14th Yang Di-Pertuan Agong today after a successful five-year reign.  His Majesty was elected Malaysia’s Supreme Ruler for the second time on 13 December 2011.  He was the country’s 5th Yang Di-Pertuan Agong from 1970 to 1975.

Nalanda Free School ‘Appreciation Day’

On Saturday 22 October, Nalanda Free School held its annual ‘Appreciation Day’ to honour all its volunteer teachers who have lovingly given their time and effort to educate the community.  The occasion also provided an opportunity for students to show their gratitude and appreciation to their teachers.  Some students came up with a dance performance which greatly amused everyone present.

First anniversary of Wisdom Park Committee

On Sunday 16 October, the Wisdom Park Development Committee (WPDC) celebrated its first anniversary of establishment and operation.  WPDC was formed in October 2015 with initially 13 members, and was tasked with preparing the ‘Master Development Plan’ for Wisdom Park – the proposed education hub for the Malaysian Buddhist community.  3 more members were later invited to join WPDC to strengthen the team.

Flowing gratitude in Seri Kembangan

On Saturday 17 September, two venerable monks were invited to go on alms-round at Jalan Besar market in Seri Kembangan.  The monthly alms-round is a keenly awaited event by market-goers and stall operators alike, as it enables otherwise busy people to offer food to Sangha members.

Fabulous fun fair in Johor Bahru

Excellent weather greeted the crowd at ‘Family Fun Fair’ 2016 organised by Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch.  It was only the second year the ‘Fun Fair’ was held in J.B., yet the event was a resounding success due to the great support from the local community.

‘Family Fun Fair’ reported in the press

Malaysia’s leading English daily The Star today reported on the Nalanda ‘Family Fun Fair’ held on 31 July 2016.  The event aimed to raise funds for the proposed “K. Sri Dhammananda Centre” in Sri Serdang – which is a new facility dedicated to Buddhist education.

Dāna at NEO Centre Sungai Petani

On Saturday 6 August, members of Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch invited Venerable Thipako and Venerable Foo from Sammāditthi Meditation Grove in Sungai Pasir for lunch dāna.  The appreciation dāna was specifically to thank Ven. Thipako (“Bhante Lim”) for his kind and generous support in the construction of Nalanda Outreach & Education (NEO) Centre, located in Bandar Mutiara, Sungai Petani last year.

On Sunday 31 July, the President of Selangor Buddhist Development Council (SBDC), Bro. Loka Ng, visited Nalanda Centre to present a Certificate of Appreciation to Nalanda Buddhist Society for supporting and participating in the recent Selangor State Level Wesak Celebration.
