During his most recent tour to Indonesia, Bro. Tan took time to visit a few amazing ‘Srikandis’* in Maribaya and Klaten. Bro. Tan first paid tribute to Venerable Bhikkhunis Ayya Santinī and Ayya Sīlavatī in Maribaya, West Java, last Wednesday. Both Ayyas are currently the only two Theravadin bhikkhunis in Indonesia. They conduct many meditation retreats annually at their centre, as well as travel extensively throughout the vast country to teach Dhamma.Read more

The ‘Wayang Kulit’ (shadow-play) is a traditional performance using puppet-shadow movements and voice to tell a story. The performance was perfectly executed with a fine display of showmanship by Nalandians.
A most inspiring ‘Dhamma Appreciation Night’ was recently held on 24 May to celebrate the Wesak full-moon Buddha Day. The dynamic performances that evening delighted the audience with its youthful zest and brilliant comedic effects. The night’s 3 performances were specially presented by a team of dedicated young Nalandians, who were ably guided by Nalanda Institute’s Director, Mr. Vijaya Samarawickrama. Read more

18 March 2013 marks the 95th birth anniversary of Nalanda’s late Spiritual Advisor, the Most Venerable Kirinde Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Thero. This day is also Nalanda Patron’s Day, an annual event to commemorate and appreciate all our donors, benefactors and volunteers who have contributed tremendously to the growth of Nalanda over the years.
