Pindacāra & Dhamma talk by Ven. Sanghasena

In conjunction with the Jambudvipa-Suvarnabhumi Buddhist Youth Exchange Programme, we invite you to join Pindacāra (monks on alms-round) which will be led by Ven. Sanghasena from Ladakh.  The alms-round will commence at OUG and Happy Garden markets at 8.30am and 9.30am respectively, on Saturday 18 November.

Welcoming Ven. Sanghasena to Nalanda Centre

This evening, Nalanda members and volunteers joyfully welcomed Ven. Sanghasena Mahathero to Nalanda Centre.  Ven. Sanghasena, Founder and President of Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre in Ladakh, is visiting Malaysia until 25 November in conjunction with the “Jambudvipa-Suvarnabhumi Buddhist Youth Exchange Programme”.

Sangha Day Observance

Join us at Nalanda Centre to observe ‘Sangha Day’ on Sunday 29 October, an important occasion for Buddhists to honour the virtues and contributions of the monastic community.  We invite you and your loved ones to partake in this meritorious act by offering robes, requisites and making sponsorship towards the Sangha fund, which are channelled to support monastics for their medical and educational needs.

Sangha Day B.E. 2567

‘Sangha Day’ is an important occasion at Nalanda for the lay community to honour the virtues and contributions of the Māha Sangha (monastic order) in preserving and propagating Buddhism.  This is an occasion to express gratitude to monks and nuns who strive diligently to bring happiness and peace to mankind.  Devotees in return offer robes, food, medicinal support, educational support, and other requisites to them.

Sanghika Dana at Serdang Buddhist Association

On Saturday 16 September, Nalanda leaders joined in the ‘Sanghika Dana’ organised by Serdang Buddhist Association in Seri Kembangan.  This meritorious event, which has been held yearly for the past 8 years, is aimed at reinforcing the connection and support between the Sangha and lay communities.  In the presence of over 100 venerable monks and nuns, the Buddhist community made offerings to the Maha Sangha, with hearts of joy and gratitude.

Hosting Ven. Alokavamsa at Nalanda

On the evening of Monday 29 May, Nalanda members and volunteers welcomed Ven. Alokavamsa and Sayalay Mitta Devi to Nalanda Centre.  Venerable Alokavamsa and Sayalay Mitta Devi are both from Indonesia, and will be staying at Nalanda until the middle of June.

A joyful start to Buddha Day B.E. 2567

In the early hours of dawn on Buddha Day B.E. 2567, Nalanda members and devotees gathered to offer dāna to venerable monks, during the morning Pindacāra (monks on alms round) which started at Nalanda Centre.  The community around the Centre also took the opportunity to perform these meritorious deeds to support the Sangha.  It was indeed a joyful start to an auspicious day.

Dhamma talk by Ven. Ajahn Kalyano

On Sunday 2 April, we were honoured to host Venerable Tahn Ajahn Kalyano for a Dhamma talk, his first visit back to Nalanda Centre since the onset of the pandemic.  Tahn Ajahn advised us to bring the quality of mindfulness into our lives as often as possible, in order to cultivate inner awareness and strength of mind.

Hosting Ven. Paññajoti at Nalanda

Nalanda will be hosting Venerable Paññajoti from Wednesday to Sunday (1 to 5 March) at Nalanda Centre. Venerable hails from Sarawak and was ordained in the Mahayana tradition in 2015. In 2018, Venerable re-ordained as a Theravada Bhikkhu under Venerable Dvipitaka Sayadaw Ashin Kovidābhivamsa in Penang, and trained in Bodhivana Buddhist Hermitage, Kuching.

Pindacāra during Lunar New Year festivities

On Saturday 4 February, the community at O.U.G. and Happy Market gathered to perform the meritorious deed of dāna in support of the Mahā Sangha. Even as vendors and marketgoers are busy preparing for the last few days of the Lunar New Year festivities, many stepped forward to offer food and requisites at Pindacāra (monks on alms-round), experiencing the joy of giving especially to those worthy of honour.
