Mid-Autumn fellowship at NEO Centre KL

On Sunday 7 September, Nalanda Kuala Lumpur Branch organized a Mid-Autumn Festival gathering which saw a good turnout of parents and children from the Junior Dharma School.  The objective of this gathering was to foster bonding and to promote Buddhist values and culture.  Besides, the Branch Committee took this opportunity to thank all devotees and members for their contribution in the recent Nalanda Family Fun Fair held on 24 August.

Service Sunday with Charlie Chia

On Sunday 7 September, devotees gathered at Nalanda Centre for Service Sunday with a Dhamma talk by Bro. Charlie Chia.  After pūja, chanting and meditation, Bro. Charlie Chia shared about the way to be a happy and successful person.  One needs the conditions of good kamma, being in the right environment, and making the right effort to be ‘successful’.

‘Meditation made easy’ by Dr. Phang Cheng Kar

On 3 August, Dr. Phang Cheng Kar, a practising psychiatrist and a resident speaker at Nalanda, delivered a talk on ‘Meditation made easy’ during Service Sunday.  The talk attracted a large crowd as the practice of meditation, with scientifically-proven benefits, is becoming more popular worldwide.  We perform exercises to achieve physical well-being; but the key to attain mental well-being is through meditation.

Sunday talk on ‘Harmonious Speech’

On Sunday 27 July, Sis. Tan Yee Yong delivered a Dhamma Talk on “Harmonious Speech” based on the teachings of the Buddha.  This topic was a fitting one because it happened to be ‘Samaggi Day’ (‘unity and concord’ observance day), which falls on the last Sunday of every month.

Reflective Memorial Service for MH17

On Wednesday 23 July, Nalanda Centre was filled with devotees who came to participate in a Memorial Service for the casualties of MH17.  Bro. Tan led devotees in pūja, chanting and Mettā meditation.  After which, a short but impactful video clip showing the last moments of MH17 and aftermaths of the tragedy was presented.  Following that was an inspiring Dhamma talk by Bro Tan.

Inspirational Dhamma Talk in Langkawi

On 27 June, Nalanda Founder Bro.Tan gave an uplifting Dhamma talk at Langkawi Buddhist Society in Kuah, where he spoke about the Buddhist perspective on ‘relationship’.  Bro. Tan’s visit to Langkawi came after a lapse of almost 10 years since his last trip there; hence the talk was very well received.

An inspiring ‘Dhamma Day’ teaching

On Sunday 13 July, more than 100 devotees gathered at Nalanda Centre to commemorate ‘Dhamma Day’.  As the day signifies the preaching of Buddha’s first discourse after his Enlightenment, Bro. Tan led devotees in reciting the famous ‘Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta’.

Developing faith with proper understanding

The Āsālha full-moon day fell on Friday, 11 July this year.  This special day commemorates the anniversaries of the Bodhisatta’s Conception, His Great Renunciation and the Buddha’s preaching of the first sermon – the ‘Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta’ (Discourse on ‘Turning the Wheel of Dhamma’).  It was also on this day, too, that the Sangha was established and the ‘Three Refuges’ complete.

Dear friends, a special evening Service in memory of the casualties of MH17 will be held at Nalanda Centre on Wednesday 23 July, from 8pm to 10pm.  We invite you to participate in this Service with meditation, chanting, and a Dhamma teaching by Bro. Tan, who will talk about the Buddhist response to the vicissitudes of life.  All are welcome.
