Nalandians vote for continuing progress

Nalanda members concluded yet another successful Annual General Meeting (A.G.M.) on Sunday 12 March – the 14th edition since the Society’s establishment in 2003.  As customary, the meeting was preceded by paying homage to the Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha at the main Shrine Hall of Nalanda Centre, followed by ‘Achariya-abhivādana’ – paying respects to our late spiritual adviser, Ven. K. Sri Dhammananda, at Sumangala Room.

Temple visit to start the year

Nalanda leaders usually start the New Year by visiting Buddhist viharas in a tradition stretching back to 2004; and this year was no exception.  President Sis. Evelyn, Deputy President Bro. Charlie Teng, Honorary Secretary Bro. Pee, as well as Board Members Bro. Chan and Sis. Santī were among a group of Nalanda officers who paid a visit to the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple in Sentul in the first week of January.

Nalanda Leadership Retreat

Twenty-six Nalanda officers are spending the long Deepavali weekend attending a special retreat in Klang, Selangor.  This is the second annual leadership retreat which involves Executive Committee members and all branch leaders.

Theravada Council leaders visit Nalanda

The leaders of Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia (TBCM) recently paid a courtesy visit to Nalanda Centre to meet with Bro Tan.  TBCM President Bro. Tan Leng Huat and Honorary Secretary-General Bro. Lee Kok Cheng were elected to their respective positions following the Council’s Annual General Meeting in May 2016.

Student officers’ meeting

Recently, newly-elected student officers had a special meeting to understand their roles in leading their peers at Nalanda Dhamma School.  The School is specially catered for teenagers aged between 13 and 17.  Every student is placed in either one of the two ‘houses’ – Naga House or Garuda House.  At the beginning of every year, members of each House elect their officers – a House Captain, Deputy Captain and two House Prefects – to lead the team.  This has been the tradition of Nalanda Dhamma School since its inception in 2005.

Meeting of hearts and minds

On 30 April and 1 May, sixty Nalanda leaders from Sri Serdang and the branches in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani made full use of the long Labour Day weekend to attend the inaugural leadership conference at Nalanda Centre.  The meeting was aimed at unifying hearts and sharing ideas on the Society’s way forward.

Welcoming new batch of officers

On Saturday 30 April, a new batch of elected office-bearers took their ‘pledge of service’ in a simple ceremony at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.  In total, 33 Management Committee members from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Sungai Petani branches (11 from each branch) were elected in early March this year; 26 of them attended the installation ceremony witnessed by the Society’s leaders, Board of Management members, and senior officers.

Inaugural conference for Nalandian leaders

In conjunction with Nalanda Buddhist Society’s 13th anniversary celebrations, Nalandian leaders from all branches and departments were invited to a special leadership conference on 30 April and 1 May.  The leaders comprising elected office-bearers and appointed officers met at Nalanda Centre for two days to chart the Society’s way forward.

Leadership briefed on Wisdom Park

Nalanda’s leadership was recently briefed on the progress of Wisdom Park by founder Bro Tan, who is also the Chairman of Wisdom Park Development Committee.  He explained in detail the proposed development in Phase 1 of the project, which is expected to take off soon.
