Nepal shaken by another strong Earthquake

3 weeks after the devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake that killed more than 8,000 people, Nepal was again stricken by another powerful 7.3 earthquake today.  The epicenter of the quake was 83 km from Kathmandu, near to Namche Bazar and Mount Everest.  The earthquake was strong enough to be felt in the Indian capital New Delhi and Bangladeshi capital Dhaka.

Dedicating Merits to Nepal Earthquake Victims

During the Wesak ‘Buddha Day’ observance period, Nalanda devotees performed numerous meritorious deeds such as giving alms, listening to and discussing the Dhamma, meditating, and serving others selflessly.  In a pūja last night (Sunday, 3 May), Nalandians dedicated merits to the victims of the recent devastating earthquake in Nepal.  With compassionate hearts, we wish that all beings be free from harm and danger.  May all beings be free from suffering!

Dedicate merits to Nepal this Wesak

On Sunday 26 April, Nalanda Founder Bro. Tan led Nalandians in dedicating merits to the victims of the massive earthquake that struck Nepal last Saturday.  The tragedy has brought immense losses and suffering to more than a million people.  To date, more than 5,500 victims were confirmed dead, with the toll expected to rise further.

Heroic Ordinary folks in Earthquake Aftermath

The magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck central Nepal between the two major cities of Kathmandu and Pokhara yesterday morning caused untold damages to the infrastructure of Nepal.  Thousands of homes, offices, and public buildings collapsed in the tremor, crushing and trapping people inside them.  So far, the death toll has surpassed 2,300 people, including dozens who died in neighbouring India and Tibet.

Please Pray for Nepal

We invite everyone to pray and radiate thoughts of ‘mettā-karunā’ to the victims of the massive earthquake that overwhelmed Kathmandu and Central Nepal yesterday.  The earthquake and its aftershocks caused very extensive damage and a great loss of lives.  The death-toll has surpassed 2,000 and is still climbing as news streams in from the interiors.

Prayers for Air-crash Casualties

On Tuesday 24 March, another tragic air-crash took place in Europe, killing all 150 passengers and crew on board Germanwings flight 9525.  The ill-fated Airbus A320 was en route from Barcelona, Spain to Dusseldorf, Germany when it crashed in the French Alps.  Nalanda members offer our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the casualties.  We empathize with your loss and grief here in Malaysia.  We also offer prayers for the victims of this tragedy.  May they rest in Peace.

Memorial Service at Sentul Buddhist Temple

On Wednesday 4 March, a team of Nalandians attended a memorial service at Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple in Sentul, for the late Madam L. M. Bisomanike, mother of the temple’s Abbot Venerable Sri Saranankara Nāyaka Thero.  The late Mdm. Bisomanike passed away peacefully on 2 March in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

MH370 – 1st Anniversary, 8 March

Today marks the first anniversary of Malaysia Airlines MH370′s mysterious disappearance over the Indian Ocean.  After one year of intensive and extensive search under challenging conditions, the wreckage of the B777 aircraft is still not found.  Many questions therefore remain unanswered as to the fate of that flight, and its 239 passengers and crew.

8 March 2015 marks the 1st anniversary of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370′s mysterious disappearance over the Indian Ocean, with 239 passengers and crew on board.  We invite everyone to participate in a Special Memorial Service dedicated to the victims of this tragedy.  Let us be united in our compassion and generate thoughts of mettā (loving-kindness) to the grieving families.

‘Bodhi Pūja’ at Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Sentul

On Tuesday 10 February, a team of Nalandians participated in a ‘Bodhi Pūja’ at the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Sentul.  This special ‘Bodhi Pūja’ was offered in honour of Venerable Sri Pandit Henepola Gunaratana Nāyaka Thero, who underwent an eye surgery recently.
