Venerable Kakkapalliye Anuruddha Nayaka Thero  (1929 – 2013)

Dear friends, with a heavy heart, we would like to inform you that the most Venerable Kakkapalliye Anuruddha Nayaka Thero passed away in Sri Lanka 2 days ago.  His simple funeral was conducted immediately according to his last wishes, without fanfare, much in character with this humble bhikkhu.

Bro. Tan led a group of Nalandians in a pūja this morning in honour of the most Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita Maha Thero who passed away on Monday, 23 September, at the age of 91.  Bhante’s cremation ceremony is scheduled today in Bangalore at 10am local time.

Nalanda pays tribute to Achariya Buddharakkhita

The most Venerable Achariya Buddharakkhita Sangha Nayake, the Founder of Maha Bodhi Society of Bangalore, an eminent educationist and humanitarian, passed away peacefully on 23 September 2013, at the age of 91, having spent 64 years as a Buddhist monk.

Earnest and Heartfelt Memorial Day

31 August 2013 marked the 7th Anniversary of the late Ven. Dr. Kirinde Sri Dhammananda's passing.  Nalanda honoured our late Spiritual Advisor with a commemoration ceremony on that day.  After the meditation, puja and chanting, Bro. Tan gave a moving and poignant Dhamma talk, with fond recollections of the late venerable’s humour, kindness, wit and wisdom.  Bro. Tan also reminded us to “admire the Dhamma from near”, and live closely in accordance with the Dhamma.

Nalanda commemorates Ajahn Buddhadasa

Nalanda Buddhist Society’s Ajahn Buddhadasa Commemoration Programme began at 9.00am today with meditation, pūja and chanting at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.  Director of Nalanda Library Bro. Ananda Fong introduced the programme to the congregation in his opening remarks.  Nalanda Founder Bro. Tan then stated the purpose of this event, which is to introduce more inspiring Buddhist teachers to the Malaysian Buddhist community.

Today is Teachers’ Day.  The Principal of Nalanda Free School and Acting Director of Nalanda Dharma School, Bro. H S Tan, cordially invites Nalandians to come for a special Púja in honour of all our teachers.  May they be blessed with health, joy and wisdom.  May our teachers enjoy many more happy, fulfilling years of teaching!  After the Púja, there will be a Mandarin Dhamma Talk by Ven. The Venerable Teacher’s visit

From Nalanda’s Archives – In the year 2000, Sri Serdang hosted a visit by eminent Buddhist and Pāli Scholar, the Most Ven. Dr. K Anuruddha Nayaka Thero, the first Vice-Chancellor of the Buddhist & Pāli University of Sri Lanka.  The Venerable was highly respected for his vast learning in the Tipitaka and erudite teachings.  Ven. Anuruddha was also Bro. Tan’s Pāli teacher.  Bro.Tan and the Sri Serdang community were overjoyed when the Venerable teacher took time to visit them, and to encourage them in their learning and practice.

Dhamma School Teachers Training Programme

On 5 & 6 January 2013, Nalanda Institute Malaysia (NIM) conducted a two-day teacher's training programme at Uttama Bodhi Vihara in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya. The 35 existing and aspiring Dhamma School teachers who participated in the weekend programme gained much knowledge and inspiration to further the noble cause of Buddhist education.
