Nalanda celebrates ‘Earth Day’

On 13 April 2019, Nalanda Buddhist Society will be celebrating ‘Earth Day’ by planting more trees at Wisdom Park.  Nicknamed the “Green Warriors of Wisdom Park”, groups of volunteers have been planting local forest trees there almost every weekend since 12 months ago.  As of 31 March 2019, 402 trees and hundreds of shrubs have been planted, making the campus grounds truly pleasant as well as rehabilitating its environmental vitality.

Let’s build Wisdom Park together

The construction of Guest Lodge 01 at Wisdom Park is nearing completion, and it shall receive its first guests in a few weeks once the furnitures are installed.  This lodge measures 13,513 square feet, comprising a multi-purpose hall for 200 people and 6 bedrooms/dormitories with self-contained facilities.

Nalanda Johor Bahru leaders’ retreat

On 15 – 17 December 2018, the Management Team and officers of Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch conducted their management retreat at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang. In the 3-day gathering, the team discussed and reflected on progress made in the past years as well as planned for the upcoming years’ educational and devotional programmes.

Greening the world with trees

In November 2018, the Wisdom Park Development Committee created the ‘Subcommittee on Ecology, Horticulture & Landscaping’.  Nicknamed the “Green Warriors of Wisdom Park”, the group is tasked with greening the 39-acre campus and rehabilitating its environmental vitality.  Efforts to reforest the campus with native flora started in April 2018.  As of 17 December, 140 trees and 430 shrubs have been planted by volunteers on its spacious grounds.

3 million trees planted by IKEA in Sabah

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has completed a 20-year reforestation project in Luasong near Tawau, Eastern Sabah.  The ambitious but little-known project to plant 3 million rainforest trees began in 1998, which aimed at restoring the natural ecology to a former logged and largely degraded area.

Wisdom Park exhibition opened

On Sunday 4 November, a special exhibition on Wisdom Park was launched at Nalanda Centre. The vibrant exhibits and video clips show the journey from the conceptualisation to early construction of Wisdom Park.  We are grateful to the Wisdom Park Development Committee for leading the realisation of this noble project, and to our benefactors and donors for their fervent support.

Fireflies visit Nalanda 7 years in a row

On Saturday 27 October, Nalandians warmly welcomed and hosted 24 visiting members of Firefly Mission from Singapore.  The group, led by their President Dr. Ng Yee Kong, travels annually to various monasteries in Malaysia to celebrate the offering of ‘Kathina’.  It was their 7th consecutive yearly visit to Nalanda Centre, a place which they find genuine warmth and inspiration.

Plant a tree at Wisdom Park

Wisdom Park promotes the principle of harmony with nature and aims to replenish its grounds where lush tropical forests had once stood.  Efforts to rehabilitate the campus with native flora started in April 2018.  To date, 108 trees and 400 shrubs have been planted by volunteers in its spacious grounds.

Nalanda leaders visit Wisdom Park

On Sunday 14 October, Nalanda Board of Management and EXCO members visited Wisdom Park in Hulu Selangor to mark its 3rd anniversary.  10 members of the Wisdom Park Development Committee (WPDC) were on hand to welcome the Nalandian leaders.  They were brought on an extensive tour of the construction site which spans 12 acres currently.
