Sāvaṇa Full-moon Uposatha

Today is the full-moon day of the ‘Sāvaṇa’ month. It’s a time to dedicate ourselves to strengthen our Dhamma practice through observing the Eight Precepts, meditation practice and listening to Dhamma talks. We encourage all spiritual friends to reflect on the teachings of the Buddha on this full-moon Uposatha. May your practice bring you inner happiness, clarity and peace.

Nalanda Institute Malaysia and Theravāda Buddhist Council of Malaysia are organising WACANA 2025 Buddhist Conference on Saturday 20 December, in Menara KEN, TTDI Kuala Lumpur. The theme for this year’s conference is “Awakening to Community Well-being : Contemporary Approaches ”.

Meaningful exchange with Dhamma educators

On Sunday 3 August, Nalanda Dhamma School (NDS) warmly welcomed a group of Dhamma School teachers from Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society’s Dhamma Dipa Circle (Dhamma learning programme for children) for an enriching exchange session.  NDS facilitators shared about the structure, values, and learning approach of the School, as well as how they cultivate holistic development in students.  The friendly and open atmosphere allowed for meaningful dialogue and mutual learning.

Students prepare for Fun Fair in high spirits

In the weeks leading up to the much-anticipated Family Fun Fair this year, Nalanda Dhamma School is buzzing with excitement and enthusiasm. The spirit of teamwork and joyful service fills the air as everyone rallies together to support this meaningful community event.  Both the Junior and Teenage School students are actively involved in different ways, contributing their time, creativity, and energy with much dedication and joy.

Youths further training in spirited chanting

On Sunday 27 July, 18 youths continued their learning after the Special Lecture by Achariya Vijaya by attending a training for chanting leaders led by Bro. Ajita Lim. When leading with the right spirit, one experiences “spirituality”, deepening one’s faith in the Three Jewels. This spirit of an upright Dhamma practitioner in turn, can bring meaningful impact to others.

Hosting Ven. Sajjana at Nalanda Centre

On Sunday 20 July, we joyfully hosted Ven. Sajjana, a Burmese monk who is currently pursuing his PhD in Delhi University, India.  Sis Nandinī Tan led Ven. Sajjana on a building tour where he expressed particular interest in Nalanda’s Tipitaka and book collection in the Library.

Dhamma School facilitator briefs parents on students’ progress

On Sunday 27 July, Nalanda Dhamma School hosted a Parent-Facilitator Meeting for the Junior and Teenage Dhamma School parents.  School Coordinators Sis. Lau Wei Nee and Sis. Poh Chin Hui commenced the meeting with an overview of the learning programmes and school trips held, class profile and attendance records.

Special lecture for youths by Achariya Vijaya

On Sunday 27 July, Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama gave a special lecture on ‘The Origin of Religion’ at Nalanda Youth Centre, a topic of interest to understand the relationship between man and religion. Ach. Vijaya expounded on how the evolution of man brought about the need for religion and also their respective beliefs on how the universe began.

A joyous homecoming of the Buddha’s sacred relics

After 127 years, the Piprahwa relics — precious gemstones and bone fragments believed to belong to Gotama Buddha — have returned to India on 30 July 2025. Originally discovered in 1898 near the India-Nepal border, these sacred items were taken abroad during colonial times.
