“Taking Refuge” Ceremony on Buddha Day

Nalanda Buddhist Society will be organising a “Taking Refuge” Ceremony on this Wesak Buddha Day, Tuesday 13 May, starting at 9.30am.  In this meaningful programme to be held at Nalanda Centre, devotees come together to seek guidance and refuge in the Three Jewels – the Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha – and to observe the Five Precepts faithfully.

Nalanda members explore Kuala Lumpur

Nalandians from outside the Klang Valley who are in Selangor to participate in the inaugural National Members’ Convention from 1 – 3 May took time to explore Kuala Lumpur on Friday. Early in the morning, everyone embarked on a “Heritage Walk” exploring the old streets of KL with its rich history and tapestry of peoples and cultures.

Nalanda Youth Centre officially launched

In a simple but meaningful programme on 1 May morning, the Nalanda Youth Centre was officially launched by the Guest of Honour Bro. Goh Qing Song, President of Young Buddhist Association of Malaysia, in the presence of Ven. Sri Saranankara, other Sangha members, and Buddhist community leaders.  Also present were 200 Nalanda members and guests from Malaysia and overseas. Read more

Nalanda Youth Centre opens on 1 May 2014

Tomorrow is the official launching of Nalanda Youth Centre – the first dedicated centre for Buddhist youth activities in Serdang.  We are honoured to welcome Ven. B. Sri Saranankara Nayaka Thero, Sangha members, and Buddhist community leaders to join Nalandians in celebrating this milestone for the Malaysian Buddhist youth movement.

Delightful 2nd Members’ Day in Kedah

Following the inspiring first Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch Members’ Day last month, the 2nd such training session was held on Saturday, 26 April in Gurun, Kedah.  Founder Bro. Tan spoke about “Observance Days” – what they are and why they are celebrated.  Among the three important annual Observance Days are ‘Buddha Day’ (Wesak Full-moon), ‘Dhamma Day’ (Asalha Full-moon), and ‘Sangha Day’.

Ven. Ariyadhammika from Austria and Ven. U Sumana from Myanmar arrived at Nalanda Centre last night, having traveled from Sāsanārakkha Buddhist Sanctuary in Taiping.  They were warmly received by Nalanda officers and devotees.

Insightful Dhamma Sharing in Sungai Petani

In conjunction with Bro. Tan’s visit to Kedah, the President of Gurun Buddhist Association Mr. Khaw Kheng Hooi invited Bro. Tan to deliver a talk at his residence for relatives and close friends on Friday, 25 April.  Bro. Tan gave an insightful Mandarin and Hokkien sharing on the meaning of ‘Practice and Cultivation’.
