Forum on Mental Well-being

On 7 October, Nalanda Institute organised a Dhamma forum themed the ‘Path to Mental Well-being’, in conjunction with ‘World Mental Health Day’.  The forum aimed to address the mental-health crisis that the world is facing today.

Forum on ‘Path to Mental Well-being’

Recent-year reports by the Malaysian Ministry of Health and World Health Organization (WHO) show a rapid and alarming increase in mental-health problems.  It is estimated that one out of three Malaysian adults show signs of mental discomfort and illness to varying degrees.  This is certainly much cause for public concern.

Nalanda Institute Malaysia celebrated its 11th anniversary meaningfully today by hosting a forum on “Understand Suffering and Suffer Less – You can put it down”.  The public forum was hosted by its Director Achariya Tan Siang Chye;  Nalanda founder Bro.Tan and Sis. Tan Yee Yong were the other two speakers.

Forum on overcoming mental suffering

“You can put it down – Understand Suffering and Suffer Less”   

The entire teachings of the Buddha can be summarised as follows: knowing the true nature of suffering and overcoming it. Today’s ultrafast-paced urban lifestyle with myriad distractions inevitably leads to layers of mental suffering, most commonly stress and dissatisfaction.  Mental health has become highly endangered and many people risk having debilitating mental illness without positive intervention.

BPS305 – Certificate in Buddhist Studies

Nalanda Institute Malaysia is offering a 10-session Certificate course in Buddhist Studies commencing on 14 July 2018.  This course consists of four modules over a single 4-month semester; it introduces Dhamma learning in a structured, systematic, and holistic manner.

Joy of serving and growing together

For three days from 30 March to 1 April, representatives of Theravāda Buddhist organisations in Malaysia gathered in Puchong for the first-ever Leaders’ Summit to discuss ways to improve leadership quality for the community.  The inaugural Summit was jointly organised by Nalanda Institute and the Theravāda Buddhist Council of Malaysia.  It targeted society Presidents, Deputy Presidents, Honorary Secretaries, and Youth Leaders as participants.  All in, twenty organisations sent 76 delegates to the convention.

Youth Leaders’ Training Programme

From 27 February to 7 March 2018, Nalanda Buddhist Society will host the inaugural “Indian Buddhist Youth Leaders’ Training Programme” in Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur.  Nalanda is undertaking this important project in partnership with several Buddhist organizations in India as part of our long-term vision to propagate Buddha-Dhamma in its land of origin, and to revitalize the proper learning and practice of Buddhism there.
