Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch will be hosting a fund-raising concert on Saturday, 18 October 2014, to raise funds for the proposed “Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centre” in Bandar Mutiara, Sungai Petani. The proposed NEO Centre will function as the branch’s administrative and activity centre, and provide another much-needed place for the Buddhist community in Northern Malaysia to learn Buddha-Dhamma.

Read moreToday marks the 140th day since the Nalanda Centre Building Expansion Project began. Work is progressing smoothly on all levels, especially at Level 4 and the roof structure. The Building Committee has indicated that Levels 2 & 3 may be completed earlier and handed over to Nalanda by mid-October. This timely development will come in handy as Nalanda Centre will be hosting major events in the last quarter of the year, such as “Sangha Day”, holiday camps, members’ convention, and group visits. Today marks the 130th day since the Nalanda Centre Building Expansion Project began. In just another 50 days, the construction and renovation work should be wholly completed! Currently, work is concentrated at Level 4 and the roof structure. We have also started landscaping the surroundings of Nalanda Centre. Volunteers spent a few days last week to clean up the neighbourhood, and planted suitable shrubs to enhance the experience of visitors to the Centre.

We are happy and thankful that the project is on schedule and progressing well, and furthermore with a perfect safety record! The building construction is now concentrated at Level 4. Read moreThe Nalanda ‘Family Fun Fair’ was concluded successfully at 5pm on 24 August. More than 6,000 patrons turned up to enjoy a fun day out with family and friends at Nalanda Centre. The heavy downpour which came towards the end of the Fair did not dampen the high spirits and strong camaraderie as everyone was happy working selflessly and tirelessly towards a noble cause.

The field at Taman Sri Serdang in front of Nalanda Centre was a hub of activities with more than 1,000 lunch-time crowd sampling a huge variety of delicacies on offer. The 160 stalls were doing brisk ‘business’ as many items on sale were quickly snapped up. Despite its large scale, the atmosphere in the field felt like that of a friendly village market!
