Happy Diwali

Spiritual cultivation at Eight-Precept Programme

On 13 October, the full-moon Uposatha Day of Assayuja month, over 120 participants devoted a day to Dhamma learning and contemplation in the Eight-Precept Programme at Nalanda Centre.  Led by Nalanda founder Bro. Tan, the preceptees learned in greater detail the purpose and practice of this noble observance.

1st anniversary of K. Sri Dhammananda Centre

Tomorrow (6 October) marks the first anniversary of the launching of K. Sri Dhammananda Centre in Sri Serdang.  The past 12 months have seen the Centre fully utilised for Dhamma camps, meditation retreats, and currently, as the premise for the Adult Dhamma School every Sunday.

International Day of Non-violence

Today marks the 150th birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (2 October 1869 – 30 January 1948).  It is celebrated as ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ in India; and since 2007, it was designated by the United Nations as the “International Day of Non-Violence”.   Gandhiji was revered by millions of Indians as ‘Mahātmā’, who worked indefatigably for the peaceful independence of India from colonial rule, while professing the ancient philosophy of non-violence, truthfulness, modesty and simplicity.

Youthful & joyful service at Wisdom Park

In September 2019, more than 130 youths took part in a day of joyful voluntary service in Wisdom Park.  They were participants of the recent ‘Dhamma-Living Camp for Young Adults’, an annual gathering of young Buddhists that truly inspires and energises many to practise Dhamma whole-heartedly.

Qualities for a noble life

On 29 September, Bro. Tan Siang Chye delivered a Dhamma talk on humility and modesty.  Modesty is the outward sign of a truly humble person, who lives a simple life, without the need for status or the urge to be higher than others.  Pride, conceit and arrogance are the opposites of these qualities.  These unwholesome traits trap people in prisons of their own creation, and prevent them from progressing on the Noble Eightfold Path.
