Uposatha Pūja & Dhamma Talk today

Today is the new-moon day for the month of Jeṭṭha, and the first Uposatha Observance day during our annual ‘Gimhāna Period’.  We welcome everyone to join us at Nalanda Centre tonight for an evening of meditation, pūja, chanting, and Dhamma teaching by Bro Tan.  The programme tonight starts at 8.00pm.  Come experience the joy of learning and practising in the company of like-minded spiritual friends.  All are welcome!

Condolences to the people of Perak

Nalanda Malaysia offers our deepest condolences to the people of Perak on the passing away of Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah this afternoon (1.30pm on 28 May 2014).  The late Sultan of Perak would be laid to rest at the Royal Mausoleum in Kuala Kangsar on Thursday.

Gimhāna Retreat begins today

Every year between the Full-moon days of May and July, Nalanda organises a 7-week period of Dhamma immersion where devotees can gather for meditation, chanting, Dhamma discussions, and communal service.  This 7-week programme is called the ‘Gimhāna Retreat’ at Nalanda. This year it begins on 28 May and ends on 16 July.

1st Anniversary of NEO Centre Johor Bahru

Today marks the first anniversary of Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centre Johor Bahru.  The Centre located in Taman Johor Jaya was launched on 26 May 2013 by Ven. Sri Saranankara Nayaka Thero in the presence of Sangha members, devotees and Nalanda members from all branches.

Talk at Shah Alam Buddhist Society

On Sunday 18 May, Bro. Tan was invited to Shah Alam Buddhist Society to talk on the Buddha’s teaching of ‘Dependent Arising’ (“Paticca Samuppāda”).  The Buddha’s profound teaching explains in detail the arising of suffering in the mind, as well as its cessation.

Dialogue with PATRIA in Jakarta

As part of the programme for their official visit to Jakarta, Nalanda officers met up with the Executive Committee of PATRIA (“Pemuda Theravada Indonesia”) for an interactive dialogue session on Saturday, 3 May.  PATRIA is a national body representing Indonesian Theravada youths; it has branches and activity centres in many provinces throughout the country.

Joyful realization of BFI House, Jakarta

This Wesak month must be a very significant one for members of Buddhist Fellowship Indonesia (BFI) as they celebrate Buddha Day (or ‘Hari Waisak’ in Indonesia) at their marvelous new ‘home’ – the BFI House.  After 8 years of operating from rented premises, BFI has moved into their delightful and welcoming new centre located in Kelapa Gading District, North Jakarta.

Food for the Homeless in Kuala Lumpur

On Saturday 17 May, a team of Nalandian youths distributed food to the homeless on the streets of Kuala Lumpur.  Accompanied by Nalanda KL Branch Chairman Bro. Eugene Yong and Dharma School Facilitator Bro. Choong Li, the Youth team spent an hour around midnight combing the streets near Pudu Sentral to offer food to people living on the streets.

Visit by Ven. Chang Zao of Dharma Drum Mountain

The Superintendent of Dharma Drum Mountain Malaysia (法鼓山馬來西亞) Venerable Chang Zao (常藻法师) came for a courtesy visit to Nalanda Centre this afternoon, accompanied by two volunteer officers.  They were warmly received by Sis. Nandini Tan and Bro. Charlie Teng, together with several other Nalandians.

First Nalandian Dhammaduta to the United States

Nalanda Youth Centre is certainly spawning a new generation of passionate Dhamma messengers (Dhammaduta)!  In conjunction with Wesak, Nalandian youth Lim Jie Sheng, 18, has been invited to give a Dhamma-sharing at the Indiana Buddhist Temple in Hoagland, Indiana, this Saturday 24 May 2014.
