Nalanda Institute Malaysia is honoured to host a special lecture by Dr. Ooi Eng Jin, Dean of the Faculty of Buddhist Studies in International Buddhist College. Dr. Ooi will bring to light the fascinating world of early Buddhist inscriptions discovered in Kedah Tua – one of Southeast Asia’s oldest civilisations. These ancient records offer rare glimpses into the spread of Buddhism, the networks of trade and culture, and the spiritual life that once flourished on our very shores.

A meaningful Sunday together

Join us this Sunday on 29 March for a meaningful day at Nalanda. Start the day with Pindacāra with Ven. Ajahn Visālo. From 9am to 12pm, learning sessions include Sunday Service with Bro. Benny Liow, Youth Dhamma Chat with Ven. Ajahn Visālo, and a Parenting Workshop with Bro. Aggaphala Yap (registration required). At 11.30am, there will also be opportunity to offer lunch dāna. Nalanda members are invited to join the 23rd A.G.M. of Nalanda Buddhist Society at 2pm.

Youths Stay-in at Wisdom Park

From 6 to 8 March, Nalanda youth members gathered at Wisdom Park for a meaningful stay-in programme incorporating service and learning while strengthening bonds of friendship. It was a wonderful opportunity for youths to care for the educational campus while deepening their connection with the Dhamma and with one another.

On Sunday 22 February, Nalanda members and devotees returned to Nalanda Centre, refreshed and eager to continue learning the Dhamma after the Lunar New Year holidays. The morning began with a short meditation session, giving everyone quiet time to focus on the present moment and calm their minds after the festive celebrations.

Students cultivate respect at Stay-In Programme

From 31 January to 2 February 2026, 80 students and facilitators from Nalanda Dhamma School, along with youth volunteers, came together for a stay-in programme at Nalanda Centre. Guided by the theme “Respect Starts with Me”, the programme provided meaningful opportunities for students to learn the Dhamma, practise mindfulness and strengthen their bonds with spiritual friends.

Mettā Bhāvanā learning session commences

On Wednesday 28 January 2026, Sis. Sunandā Ong led the first of twelve Mettā Bhāvanā learning sessions at Nalanda Centre. Starting with a guided mettā meditation session, participants then learned that the word mettā, is derived from the Pali word ‘mitta’, meaning friend. It refers to loving friendliness or loving-kindness expressed through goodwill, harmony and non-violence.

Coming together for 2026’s first Samaggi Service

Last Sunday 25 January 2026, Nalanda members, devotees, youths, together with Dhamma School facilitators and students gathered for the year’s first Samaggi Sunday Service. Sis. Santi Cheang, Assistant Honorary Secretary of the Society, delivered the Samaggi message and reminded the congregation of the importance of harmony — harmony within ourselves, and harmony with one another.

A Joyful Beginning for Nalanda Dhamma School 2026

The new Dhamma School year began on a wholesome note as Nalanda Dhamma School sessions commenced across Sri Serdang, Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru over the weekend. On Sunday 18 January, the first sessions of Nalanda Teenage and Junior Dhamma Schools and the Parents Induction Programme (PIP) were held at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang. The first session set a calm and purposeful tone for the year, reminding students that Dhamma learning is a gradual and meaningful process that supports character development, mindfulness, and wise living in daily life.

Pursuing lasting happiness and inner peace

On Sunday 11 January 2026, devotees gathered at Nalanda Centre for a spiritually enriching Sunday Morning Service. In the Dhamma talk titled “Which Happiness Will You Choose?”, Sis. Nandinī Tan shared on the two types of happiness taught by the Buddha: Sāmisa Sukha, happiness dependent on external conditions; and Nirāmisa Sukha, happiness that arises from inner cultivation. The Buddha never denied happiness; rather, his teachings invite us to understand it more deeply, refine its quality, and grow towards a happiness that is truly liberating.
