‘Family Fun Fair’ in Johor Bahru

We joyfully invite you to participate in our only fund-raising event in Johor Bahru this year – the much-loved ‘Family Fun Fair’ which will be held this coming Sunday, 11 September.  The ‘Fun Fair’ will feature over 75 stalls offering a wide range of home-cooked food, fresh produce, and household items.

Dāna at NEO Centre Sungai Petani

On Saturday 6 August, members of Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch invited Venerable Thipako and Venerable Foo from Sammāditthi Meditation Grove in Sungai Pasir for lunch dāna.  The appreciation dāna was specifically to thank Ven. Thipako (“Bhante Lim”) for his kind and generous support in the construction of Nalanda Outreach & Education (NEO) Centre, located in Bandar Mutiara, Sungai Petani last year.

Meditation class at NEO Centre KL

The Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centre in Happy Garden Kuala Lumpur was packed to the brim last Thursday as a new meditation class got underway.  More than 50 meditators signed up for the class, which is the second to be held at the Nalanda branch centre following a successful one last year.

Wesak ‘Buddha Day’ programme in Johor Bahru

Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centre Johor Bahru is observing this weekend’s auspicious ‘Buddha Day’ with three days of activities comprising Dhamma teachings, an exhibition, guided tour of the Centre, alms-giving to monks, blood donation campaign, and for the first time ever – a candle-light procession in Taman Johor Jaya.

Prioritise Dhamma learning this Wesak

Wesak ‘Buddha Day’ commemorates the profound event of Buddha’s ‘Enlightenment’ – in other words, His complete realisation of truth and liberation from suffering.  The path towards ‘Enlightenment’ begins with learning and practising Dhamma.  Thus, we should prioritise spiritual cultivation over rituals in observing Wesak Day.

Pindacāra in O.U.G. and Happy Garden

On Saturday 2 April, two venerable monks went on Pindacāra (alms-round) at Overseas Union Garden (O.U.G.) and Happy Garden morning markets.  It was the first time in many months that the Pindacāra programme was held at O.U.G. and the response there was very heartening.

New Year ‘Open House’ in Kedah

On Friday 12 February, Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch organized an “Open House” for the public at NEO Centre Bandar Mutiara in conjunction with the Lunar New Year celebration.  Members of the public began streaming in continuously as the Centre opened at 10 am.

Dhamma School in K.L. welcomes students

On 3 January, Nalanda Education Outreach (NEO) Centre in Kuala Lumpur held its first Junior Dhamma School session for this year.  The session began with chanting and meditation for the students to compose their minds.  This was followed by a welcoming speech and short Dhamma sharing by School Coordinator Sis. Sadhika.

Dhamma School year starts in J. B.

The Nalanda Dhamma School year began in Serdang, Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru centres simultaneously on Sunday, 3 January.  The Dhamma School in J.B. is catered for teenagers aged 13 to 17.  A total of 40 weekly sessions plus 3 special occasions are scheduled in the school calendar.

Since its opening last month, the Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centre in Sungai Petani has received many compliments for its simple elegance and pragmatic design.  The 4,300 square feet facility houses a Dhamma Teaching & Meditation Hall, a reference library, office, meeting room, two guest rooms, and a kitchen.
