Sponsorship of 33 Pillars

The Wisdom Park Administrative Centre under Phase 1C is currently under construction and it is scheduled for completion in early 2020.  The 9,000 square feet building will house the management office, volunteer centre, accommodation for teachers, and space for meeting/training activities.

Honouring the Sangha at NEO Centre Kuala Lumpur

On Sunday 10 November, Nalanda Kuala Lumpur Branch held its ‘Sangha Day’ in Happy Garden, Kuala Lumpur with the keen participation of the community.  The programme began with meditation, offerings and chanting, followed by a Dhamma talk by Bro. Ananda Fong who shared about the significance of the Sangha.

Dhamma talk by Ven. Ayya Susila

On Sunday 10 November, Venerable Ayya Susila gave a Dhamma talk at Nalanda Centre, on the topic of finding happiness through mindfulness.  Published studies state that people experience happiness and peace when they pay full attention to what they are doing – this is the mental state of mindfulness.  When we are not focused on what we are doing, we lack contentment.  A wandering mind brings restlessness, anxiety about the future and regrets of the past.

After 2 years of physical construction which began in January 2018, Wisdom Park is gradually being transformed into a delightful campus which will host training and educational programmes for future Buddhist leaders and teachers.  The facility is on schedule to be operational by 1 May 2020.

Institute students dive into history

On Saturday 2 November, students of BPS 403 Higher Certificate in Buddhist Studies presented their much anticipated team assignments to course lecturers and peers.  The 11 teams had five weeks to research the development of Buddhism in their chosen Southeast Asian country and prepare their presentations as part of the course assessment.

‘Sangha Day’ at NEO Centre Kuala Lumpur

‘Sangha Day’ is celebrated in November annually at Nalanda to express gratitude and support for the Sangha (monastic community) by offering robes and other requisites to monks and nuns.  This is an important occasion for Buddhists to honour the virtues and contributions of the monastic community who strive diligently to bring the Buddha’s teaching for the benefit of mankind.

Retreat for Friends of Wisdom Park

From 25 to 27 October, 23 Friends of Wisdom Park (FoWP) Singapore Chapter retreated to Wisdom Park for Dhamma learning and practice.  Nalanda founder Bro. Tan delivered daily Dhamma teachings, encouraging everyone to temporarily disconnect from city life and tune in to nature.  With the welcomed respite from hectic activities, the group strengthened their mindfulness and reflection.

Silver Lining Day with Mon children

On Sunday 27 October, Nalanda Youth Centre volunteers visited the Mon Refugee Children Learning Centre at Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.  The annual Silver Lining Day programme is an avenue for youths to offer their service for the community and strengthen fellowship amongst these young volunteers.
