Commemorating the 111th Birth Anniversary of Tunku Abdul Rahman

Today marks the 111th Birth Anniversary of Malaysia’s first Prime Minister and “Father of Independence”, the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj.  The Tunku led a group of visionary and courageous Malayan leaders in working together to achieve the nation’s independence in 1957, and to form ‘Malaysia’ in 1963.

Nalanda Centre reopens on 4 February 2014

After a week’s holiday for the Lunar New Year, Nalanda Centre will reopen tomorrow (Tuesday, 4 February) at 10.00am to continue serving the community.  Our Library will also be operational as usual tomorrow.  We hope you’ve had a wonderful break from work, and energized by reunions with family members and friends.  Welcome back, and see you at Nalanda!

Lunar New Year Holidays

Cultivating Generosity and Experiencing Joy

A Pindacāra (monks going on alms-round) was held at Seri Kembangan market yesterday morning.  It was a joyful occasion as we witnessed the public cheerfully approaching the venerable monks to offer food and other allowable requisites with respect.  It is indeed inspiring to see this monthly programme becoming a platform for lay people to experience joy and happiness through wholesome acts of giving.

Prof. David J. Kalupahana passed away

It is with deep respects that we announce the passing of a distinguished scholar in Buddhist and Pāli Studies, Professor-Emeritus David J. Kalupahana, on Wednesday 15 January 2014 in Hawaii.  His funeral will be held on 21 January.

A Tribute to Ajahn Chah (1918 – 1992)

16 January 2014 marks the 22nd anniversary of Venerable Ajahn Chah’s passing.  More than two decades later, his unique ways of teaching still resonate among us today.  His clear message was presented in simple daily language, yet was deep and profound.  Nalanda pays tribute to this inspiring and influential teacher, whose noble example, wisdom and legacy continue to guide many practitioners presently.  Namo Sanghaya !

Nalanda Walkathon 2014 – “Walk for Education”

Nalanda Walkathon Sub-Committee led by Sis. Evelyn Chow, Bro. Vincent Lee and Bro. Charlie Teng had a meeting with the organising team members for updates on the event on Sunday, 12 January.  Everyone on the team was enthusiastically looking forward to supporting this meaningful event which will be held on 16 March.

Inaugural General Meeting of Nalanda Kuala Lumpur Branch

Nalanda Buddhist Society Kuala Lumpur Branch held its inaugural General Meeting of members (AGM) on 11 January, at Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centre in Happy Garden.  The pivotal agenda of this AGM was the election of the Branch Management Committee for 2014 – 2016.  Nalandians voted for a set of leaders that retained the key offices of Chairman and Deputy Chairman.  The whole election proceeded joyfully.

First Scheduled Pindacāra in 2014

Saturday 4 January was a meaningful day for Nalandians and devotees who were gathered at the Taman O.U.G and Happy Garden markets to offer alms-food to members of the Sangha. The monthly alms-round allows lay people to do good deeds with kind intentions and actions. Cheerfulness was what we saw from the faces of the elderly and the young.
