Thank you for a fantastic year!

2015 had been a great year for Nalanda.  In the past 12 months, we witnessed the opening of Nalanda Centre annex building and NEO Centre Sungai Petani, as well as the initiation of ‘Wisdom Park’ – the first integrated Buddhist educational facility in Malaysia.  We are full of gratitude and appreciation for all the support rendered to us for the completion of vital Dhamma-learning facilities, and for the hosting of many impactful programmes and successful events.

Nalanda Free School holiday workshop

On 22 and 23 December, Nalanda Free School conducted a holiday workshop for 10 students aged 11 years. Two teenagers who were on their semester break conducted the two-day motivational workshop for these children, giving them revision in English and Mathematics and preparing them for the new school term next year.

Second part of ‘MindfulGym’ Workshop

On 20 December, Dr. Phang Cheng Kar continued with Part 2 of the MindfulGym Workshop which he conducted at Nalanda Centre.  Dr. Phang started by recollecting lessons he taught in Part 1, and gave opportunities to participants to share their learning experiences.

Teenagers shine at ‘Cermin Hati’ holiday camp

Nalanda Dhamma School (NDS) conducted its third holiday camp for teenagers on 8 – 10 December at Wat Sukhontharam, Tumpat in Kelantan.  It was a joint effort with Persatuan Meditasi Mettarama, Dhammarakkhita and Persatuan Peranakan Cina Kelantan (PPCK).

Members’ Convention concluded in high spirit

The 4th National Nalanda Members' Convention in Sungai Petani has concluded well. Members from Serdang, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani felt the joy and camaraderie of being with 'kalyana mitta' and having fruitful discussions.

Nalanda Youths ‘fuelled up’ for 2016

Nalanda Youth Centre officers went to NEO Centre Johor Bahru to recharge, re-energise, and align their direction and plans for the coming year at their annual ‘Fuel-Up’ Camp from 11 to 13 December.  It was a fruitful gathering and the youth officers are now highly motivated to lead the Youth Centre forward.

2004 Tsunami Remembrance Day

Eleven years ago today, on 26 December 2004, a massive earthquake off Sumatra triggered a Tsunami that swept across 14 countries and killed a quarter million people. It was among the worst natural disasters in human history. But the aftermath of the tragedy saw an outpouring of compassion and donation, which brought out the best aspects of humanity.

Nalandians embark on journey north

Earlier this morning, Nalandians from Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur gathered at Nalanda Centre for pūja at 7am.  It marked the beginning of their journey north for the 4th National Nalanda Members’ Convention in Kedah.  The convention also coincides with the Officiating Ceremony of Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centre in Sungai Petani.

2016 Nalanda Free School open for registration

Nalanda Free School was established in June 2010 by a group of dedicated volunteers. Our aim is to provide free tuition, quality teaching, personal attention, and other educational support to academically-weak and needy students. Caring tutors will help the students in their learning and comprehension of important subjects such as mathematics, science, and languages.
